Getting Kids Outside On Cold Days

Most of the time little ones have no problem going outside in the winter and making snowballs, snowmen, snow angels, but on days where you can tell they need to burn off some steam but are glued to electronics, here's an idea that has helped.

My kids really love when I pull out the food coloring and spray bottles. Even my 14 y/o has fun with a bottle full of indigo and green-colored water.

It's fun to "paint" the pristine snow all sorts of colors and when they're outside in the cool air, thoughts of Fortnite and Snapchat fade away for awhile.

My kids get lost in their own worlds as they paint nature. By the end our front yard looks like a circus wonderland and it's really quite whimsical.

We also love filling sandwhich bags with water and food coloring to make ice tiles.

I'm not sure why the color tends to pull toward the middle, but they're quite pretty! I bought some water balloons for them to experiment with making different colored globes.

Another idea is to fill an ice tray and make mini ice huts. Those can also be made into all kinds of colors.

In the age when there's so much to do indoors and on days when it's much cozier inside than out, there are times it take a bit of creativity to get kids excited to put on their jacket and gloves, but a touch of color has made all the difference.

This isn't just for the little ones, either. Your older ones may surprise you with how much fun they have.

Let me know if you try it! Enjoy the season. It'll be spring before we know it!
