Book Review & Giveaway: God's Little Astronomer
There are certain books that when you read them, two things happen: firstly, you wish with all your heart they existed when you were a child and secondly, you're thankful they exist now. God's Little Astronomer is one of those books.
Written by Tina Cho (an elementary school teacher of 20 years), God's Little Astronomers takes the readers, adult and child alike, on a journey into deep space to marvel at the plants, stars, asteroids, and meteors AND the God who made them. Imagine a book that celebrates science and the God behind it?
There's this erroneous belief that somehow there is a gulf between the sciences and faith, but this book ties together fact and faith in a brilliantly illustrated educational, fun journey your child will want to take over and over again.
Author Tina Cho and Illustrator Marta Álvarez Miguéns knocked it out of the park with the perfect blend of whimsy, fun facts, even Bible verses seamlessly woven into the pages.
I was able to ask Tina Cho a few questions in a very special interview!
When did you first know you wanted to be a writer?
Since I’ve been an elementary teacher, I’ve always loved picture books. In 2008, we were living in California, and I wasn’t teaching at the time, so I decided to research how to write a picture book. That led me to a writing organization (SCBWI) and a local Christian writing group. And I’ve been writing ever since.
What's your favorite Bible verse?
Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Your young readers might like to know, what's your favorite food?
Pizza. (Great answer!)
What do you want kids to take away from your book?
In all this vast amazing universe, they are God’s ultimate creation whom He loves.
Thanks Tina!
God's Little Astronomer would make a great addition to your home, church, or Christian school library. My favorite pages were the constellations. They are so brilliantly drawn and explained. Parents, there is a verse that perfectly ties into the subject matter on almost every page.
I'm a huge space lover and have to admit I've been hogging this book. It really is one that you'll enjoy reading to your kids and they'll enjoy hearing. There are many pages where your kids will want to stop and just take in the information.
Fantastic book. Five out of five stars! I'm looking for more books by this author on a variety of other science subjects.
